FLD – Shaping the Solicitors of Tomorrow

At Family Law Group, our Paralegal Training Academy is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of solicitors. The Academy bridges the gap between academic studies and the professional demands of a paralegal role, providing a supportive, structured pathway into family law.

The programme is offered as a 6-month contract, during which participants become part of our Family Law Direct (FLD) Paralegal Training Academy. Unlike traditional paralegal roles, where individuals assist a single solicitor, this Academy offers a broader scope of experience. Led by Lucy Tissington, with support from Deputy Alex Johnson, the Academy is designed to provide comprehensive guidance, ensuring every paralegal has the support and resources they need to thrive both during their training and beyond.

The Academy’s success speaks for itself. Many of our paralegals progress into advanced roles within Family Law Group, with some going on to complete their SQE apprenticeships.

What Our Paralegals Gain

During their time at the Academy, FLD paralegals will:

Draft fixed-fee letters and manage fixed-fee divorces
Assist with legal aid applications
Support solicitors and fellow paralegals across the firm

In addition to hands-on experience, participants receive in-depth training across all areas of family law. This combination of practical work and education provides invaluable exposure to the diverse aspects of family law, all while benefiting from consistent guidance and supervision.

Our goal is clear: to equip our paralegals with the tools, confidence, and expertise needed for a long and successful career in family law.
