What is Family Law Direct?

Family Law Direct is a team within Family Law Group that specialises in services that can be provided directly to clients. The services we offer are initial 15-minute free consultations, 20/20 appointments, fixed fee letters, fixed fee divorce and legal aid assessments for family law.

15-minute free consultations

These can be booked through our website - Book an Appointment. This appointment will be over the phone with our FLD team. They will look through the question fields you have provided in relation to your matter to inform you on the legal routes available with this firm, the legal principles that may apply to your matter, the court process, our private mediation service and eligibility for legal aid. This will not be with a solicitor and so legal advice cannot be provided but this will give you an informed starting point to help you choose what to do next.

20/20 appointments

These are 20-minute-longappointments with a paralegal or solicitor and are £24 inclusive of VAT. This is a short appointment, and so complex issues or multiple legal issues are not advised for these appointments. This appointment will provide you general legal advice on your matter, but due to the time frame of the appointment, cannot be in depth. This will usually be to help discuss next steps or if you are questioning whether to take a matter to court.

Fixed fee letters

This is a letter written by our FLD team on your behalf setting out your position in relation to your matter.  This would be an issue you wish to discuss with the other party and cost £84 inclusive of VAT. These letters are a good way to invite the other party to discuss a legal issue in negotiations or to invite them to mediation in a more formal manner.

Fixed fee divorces

We can do the divorce application on your behalf for a fixed fee of £420 inclusive of VAT. The court fee is still payable on top of this fee and is currently £593, however, can be waived if you are on a low income with a Help With Fees code. This is for clients who are on a lower income.  

Legal Aid assessments

The FLD team can evaluate whether you are likely to be eligible for legal aid for your matter over the phone. This will require the team to ask sensitive questions around your income and domestic abuse. This call will allow you to gather the evidence you require for a legal aid application and inform you if your legal aid would be subject to any charges/contributions that you may have to pay.
