Important Legally Aided Mediation Changes

Changes are being made to family mediation funding which are expected to come into effect on 3rd November 2014.

These changes mean that the legal aid budget will fund a MIAMS meeting and first mediation session for both parties, if one of the parties is entitled to Legal Aid. (At present only the legally aided party can have the session for free, meaning there is a cost for the other member of the party, which can deter them from taking part).

The change will run for a maximum of three years and it is hoped that this change will encourage more people to look to resolve their disputes over the coming months.
