Law Firm Links up with Anti-Domestic Violence Charity

Refuge, the leading voice for campaigning against domestic violence, has been named Family Law Group’s Charity of the Year. The growing law firm will fundraise for the charity over the course of the year, with the aim of raising as much money as possible for women and children trying to escape domestic violence.

The money raised will go towards funding Refuge’s vital work to empower survivors of domestic violence to rebuild their lives, free from violence and fear. On any given day, Refuge’s specialist services – which include safe accommodation, community outreach programmes and independent advocates who help survivors through the justice system – support 4,800 women, children and men.

Simon Leach, Director from Family Law Group commented on the choice of charity for 2017, “Each year, Family Law Group chooses a charity to support as a way of putting something back into the community. We feel by the nature of the work we do that there is a great synergy with Refuge.”

“Being a family law firm, domestic violence permeates much of the work we do, whether within divorce or children proceedings and we have historically always had close links with local refuges,” he added.

Domestic violence is a problem that won’t go away. As solicitors’ who specialise in Family Law, Family Law Group is acutely aware of the impacts of this horrendous crime. The firm hopes that by raising money for Refuge, it will show that domestic violence should not be tolerated or ignored.

Sandra Horley CBE, Chief Executive of Refuge said, “Two women a week are killed by their current or former partner in England and Wales - a statistic that has not changed in a decade. Staggeringly, one woman in every four women will experience domestic violence at some point in their lifetime. Put simply, domestic violence is still the biggest issue affecting women and children in this country – and survivors need expert support and protection."
